The first general meeting was held on February 7, when the Board presented the schedule of events for the year. Carm Grande reported on the success of the bocce courts.
Highlights of our events:
- Our March 16 dinner had a St. Patrick’s Day theme (‘Santo Patricko’ to us, at least for this one day), complete with corned beef and cabbage for dinner, and Irish clog dancers for entertainment. Price was $15 for members, and $25 for non-members.
- At our May 25 Festa Primavera at Foothill Center, we had a guest speaker for the first time. Prof. John DeVincenzi of San Jose State University lectured on Italian art and showed slides of famous masterpieces. We provided a spaghetti and ravioli dinner at a price of $12.50 per person.
- We again had booths at The Villages Independence Day celebration, and while our children’s games were very popular, we made only $42 profit.
- Barbecue and Bocce was held on August 16 at Gazebo Park. The Italian Club provided steaks, salads, and pasta, and guests brought side dishes and desserts. Dinner was followed by bocce matches for everyone interested, and a raffle conducted by Myron Zaccheo. About 160 people attended. The price was $12 per person.
- “Mozart To Mama II,” again chaired by Kathy Pavacich, was held on October 3. It was another resounding success, with a sold-out house and very popular entertainment, again by Opera San Jose and Angelo Butera and The Nicolino Trio. We were able to offer a dinner with choice of three entrees for $28 per person.
- Our golf tournament was officially named “The Ed Pasquale Italian Classic Golf tournament,” in honor of its founder, who passed away in 2003. Myron Zaccheo became chairman of the event. It was held on October 11, and 60 golfers played 9 holes. The tournament was followed by cocktails and a catered dinner at Foothill Center. We were able to hold the price at $18 per person to cover the costs of the dinner and prizes.
- The Christmas Party was held on December 6 at Vineyard Center. We had a catered prime rib dinner, followed by dancing to the music of Frank Ybarra. Kathy Pavacich chaired the event. The price was $15 for members and $18 for guests.
